Accounting Technician

To support our mandate HBA Chartered Professional Accountants is seeking an Accounting Technician to join our growing practice in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Reporting to the mangers and partners the Accounting Technician will have the opportunity to quickly assume responsibility for a wide variety of engagements, including compilation engagements, tax returns (personal, corporate), HST returns, and bookkeeping training and cleanup.

What will it take to succeed in this role?

Your education background preferably includes a recognized bookkeeping or accounting diploma least two years of relevant work experience or equivalent. You have proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and at least one accounting software package such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or Wave. Experience with other accounting software, Canadian income taxes, Caseware, and TaxPrep are considered strong assets.

Tax Accountant/Senior Associate

About Us:

To support our mandate HBA Chartered Professional Accountants is seeking a Tax Accountant at the Senior Associate or Manager to Senior Manager Level.

Reporting to the partners and senior managers, the Tax Accountant at a Senior Associate level will assist with and oversee personal and corporate tax engagements for owner-managed businesses, including:

  • identifying planning opportunities for clients
  • planning and overseeing tax returns and other work prepared by junior staff
  • preparing tax and estate plans
  • presenting client deliverables; and
  • advising clients on critical business decisions

At the Manager/Senior Manager level, the Tax Accountant would also be a member of our Management team. 

What will it take to succeed in this role?

Personally, you have a high level of integrity, initiative, and interpersonal savvy to build solid and trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Associate:

For an Associate role, your education background includes a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and you will have experience with Canadian tax in various areas including tax planning, HST, trusts, corporate and personal income tax.  

Your work experience includes a minimum of three years in a public accounting environment, with at least two years dealing with Canadian taxation.

Manager:

For a manager role, a minimum of four years in public accounting dealing with Canadian Taxation would be expected, including experience with corporate reorganizations and estate planning.  Completion of, or enrolment in the In-Depth program would be a strong asset. 

As a member of the firm’s Management Team, and the AC Group Tax Committee, you also bring proven leadership abilities and skills, including mentoring, coaching, and motivating professional staff.

Public Practice Manager

To support our mandate HBA Chartered Professional Accountants is seeking a Manager in Public Practice.

As a member of our Management Team and reporting to the partners, the Manager will participate in overseeing all aspects of a file from start to finish, including:

  • engagement planning
  • overseeing and occasionally performing fieldwork
  • reviewing work done by junior staff
  • presenting client deliverables; and
  • advising clients on critical business decisions

What will it take to succeed in the role?

Your education background includes a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and your work experience includes a minimum of four years of experience in a public accounting environment.   Your experience would vary depending on whether you are looking to specialize or be a generalist.

You may be focused on assurance, primarily dealing with ASPE and ASNFPO frameworks. If this is your path, you have experience with audits, NPO audits, and expertise using CaseWare for compilation, review, and audit engagements.

Or you may be more interested in owner-managed businesses primarily dealing with ASPE and Canadian income taxes. If this is your path, you will have experience using CaseWare for compilation and review engagements, as well as tax experience including any combination of HST, trust, corporate and personal income tax.

Senior Associate CPA

To support our mandate HBA Chartered Professional Accountants is seeking a CPA Senior Associate to join our growing practice in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Reporting to the mangers and partners the Associate or Senior Associate will have the opportunity to quickly assume responsibility for a wide variety of engagements, including assurance, tax, and other special engagements.

What will it take to succeed in the role?

Your education background preferably includes successful completion of the CFE with at least two years of experience in a public accounting environment or equivalent. You have familiarity with ASPE, ASNPO, year-end engagements, and income tax returns, however candidates with either assurance or income tax experience may also be considered. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience with QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, Wave, Dext, Caseware, and TaxPrep are considered assets.  While the CPA designation would be a strong asset, CPA students who have completed the modules and have the relevant skills and experience may also be considered for an Associate position.
