To support our mandate HBA Chartered Professional Accountants is seeking an Accounting Technician to join our growing practice in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Reporting to the mangers and partners the Accounting Technician will have the opportunity to quickly assume responsibility for a wide variety of engagements, including compilation engagements, tax returns (personal, corporate), HST returns, and bookkeeping training and cleanup.

What will it take to succeed in this role?

Your education background includes a recognized bookkeeping or accounting diploma, with at least 2 years of relevant work experience. You are proficient with at least one accounting package (any version of Sage or QuickBoooks).  Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience with other accounting applications such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, Wave, Dext, Caseware, and TaxPrep are considered assets.

Reporting to the managers and partners, the CPA student will have the opportunity to quickly assume responsibility for a wide variety of engagements, including assurance, tax, and other special engagements.

What will it take to succeed in this role?

Your education background includes a degree in Accounting or a related field, and current registration in (or meeting the qualifications for) the CPA Program. Experience in a public accounting environment or equivalent, familiarity with ASPE, ASNPO, year-end engagements, and income tax returns would be considered strong assets. French bilingualism is also considered a strong asset. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, Wave, Caseware, and TaxPrep are considered assets.

As a member of our Administrative team and reporting to the partners and senior administrative staff, the Executive/Administrative Assistant will have the opportunity to quickly assume responsibility for a wide variety of administrative duties in support of the entire organization.

What will it take to succeed in this role?

Your education background includes successful completion of a Diploma in Business Administration or related certification, with at least two years experience in an administrative role.  You are proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Manager/Senior Tax Manager

Future ownership opportunities exist for the successful applicant.

As a member of our Management Team and reporting to the partners, the Manager/Senior Manager Tax will oversee corporate tax engagements for owner-managed businesses from start to finish, including:

  • identifying planning opportunities for clients
  • planning and overseeing work done by junior staff
  • preparing tax and estate plans
  • developing reorganization plans
  • presenting client deliverables; and
  • advising clients on critical business decisions

What will it take to succeed in this role?

Your education background includes a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and completion of the In-Depth Program. and you will have experience with Canadian tax in various areas including reorganizations, estate planning, HST, trusts, corporate and/or personal income tax.  You can develop a complex tax plan, and can explain it in simple terms

Your work experience includes a minimum of five years in a public accounting environment, primarily dealing with Canadian taxation. Strong candidates currently enrolled in the In-Depth Program will also be considered.

Your education background includes a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and your work experience includes a minimum of five years of experience in a public accounting environment, primarily dealing with ASPE and ASNFPO frameworks. In addition, you have experience with audits, NPO audits, and expertise using CaseWare for compilation, review, and audit engagements, as well as, tax experience including HST, corporate and personal income tax. 

Personally, you have a high level of integrity, initiative and interpersonal savvy to build solid and trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders. As a member of the firm’s Management Team, you also bring proven leadership abilities and skills, including mentoring, coaching, and motivating professional staff.

You will have experience using CaseWare for compilation and review engagements, as well as, tax experience including any combination of HST, trust, corporate and personal income tax. 

Personally, you have a high level of integrity, initiative and interpersonal savvy to build solid and trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
